Being a friendly neighbor

Leveiticus 19:18 Thou shall not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thy self: I am the Lord.

I have been trying for weeks to take something to my neighbor who moved in not long ago.  I made some bread it did not turn out and went right in the trash.  That was so unusual for me that never happens.  I am usually a pretty good baker if I do say so myself.  My kitchen window faces their house and the things I have seen are not good.  Fighting, crying the man of the house kissing different women in the drive way.  I know it seems like I am spying but really I am not.  I just spend a lot of time in my kitchen.  Like yesterday I was watching a movie with my husband and I got up to get a drink or something and saw the man having to go in through the window because they had locked him out.  Oh my, do I still make something and take over or is it best to stay away.  I so want to be a good neighbor but I also don't want to be a bother.  What do you think? It is really on my heart.  If you think I should go what should I take.  I usually do cookies or something but I am open to some great ideas.

 Blessings

Crystal

  1. Oh my! That is a tough one! I would go because it sure seems they are in need of Christ and His love. You certainly could be an instrument for God with that family. Cookies sound like a great idea!

  2. I agree...a tough one and I also think cookies are good. I would let some time pass then leave something else at their door again. I used to have 3 kids that lived across the street from me. Their parents did not watch over them like they should and the kids (because they were not taught how to beha) were a real nuisance in the neighborhood getting into trouble. The Lord spoke to my heart and told me to watch over them with my prayers and to do what I could for them. When their parents were at work and I would see them outside I would take over cookies and chit-chat on the sidewalk with them. Some times I would take apples. (they loved apples) One day I moved my picnic table to the side yard and called them over for a craft afternoon making greeting cards and a birthday card for their dad. Afterward we visited and I served milk and cookies. Even though things did not appear to change, the Holy Spirit revealed to me that if they had an emergency while their parents were gone they trusted me enough to come over and ask my help. They were taken later to live in a foster home but I was so glad that I followed the leading of the Lord. We never know what a blessing we are to others by doing even the littlest kindness. I think you are a wonderful, loving neighbor. :)
